All Will Be Revealed

Often, mentions of the will of God illustrate something that some may find a little perplexing. What is the will of God? How do I know it? How do I do it? Those questions and many others reveal that it’s something many of us have a desire to know and understand, but we often struggle with how to begin finding the solution. If it’s something we should know, then that means we probably have the answer already, right?
Have you ever misplaced anything? I’ve encountered many people who were looking for their glasses that were sitting atop their heads. Others, who were using the flashlight on their cellphone to find their cellphone. Situations like these are where that saying comes from. If it were a snake it would have bit me! I just dealt with a similar situation at work. I knew I had a document that needed to be updated, so I went in search of it. Only, it was missing! So I asked the likely culprit, in my mind, but she didn’t have it. So, I started to go down my list of potential candidates…nothing. As I sat at my desk preparing to send an all staff email to find out where it was, I flipped through a stack of documents on my desk and, surprise! It was me. I already had the item I was looking for.
That astounded me in so many ways because that is a story similar to what we just may face when it comes to our faith. I would often hear people mention something that they felt was lacking, either at church or other places, and the reality is that sometimes, that is the very person with the solution. So at times, we too, already have the answer. We just need a little help in unearthing it. Sometimes, it requires much work. Other times, we have to get out of our own way.
One way to do that is to head back to the basics. I feel like we sometimes complicate the meaning of simple words. So at times, I like to define the word causing potential confusion and then build up from there. So let’s do some back-to-basics work. Will. What does this word mean? In the bible as well as in our lives today, the word has taken on several meanings. When you evaluate them all, you come to realize that it simply means to do. Or even something that is to come.
The forecast says it will rain tomorrow. I will get this project done by Friday.
So, when I look at it in that context, what could God’s will be for me? It starts to become a little clearer because there are plenty of scriptures that support what God desires for me and the life he granted me. Furthermore, he alone knows what my future holds. I have to develop the confidence to trust his vision and know that failure is not what lies at my doorstep. If I want a future where God gets the glory out of my life lived, then I’m on the right track to fulfilling his will for me. Am I loving and learning to do it even more so each day? Do I accept the gift of the life of Jesus? Simple questions that we can ask ourselves are also an excellent way to get ourselves on track.
People often consult things like "8-balls" and fortune tellers, not always to piece together the why of their past, but to paint a picture of the future. The desire to know is deeply rooted in us. There is a simple answer to such a question for believers of God. The easiest solution to any question we ever have when it comes to our spiritual lives is prayer. You can never go wrong by starting with God because he already has the answers you are seeking. So if you find yourself uncertain about the will of God, start by praying and reading the scriptures.
