When you are filming videos or trying to take photos, there is an occasional instance when what you see through the lens is blurry or unclear. There are multiple things I attempt to do to resolve the issue when it happens to me. I may clean my camera lens, change the orientation of my camera, or attempt moving it closer or further away. All of those methods are an attempt to make what I see come into focus because a clear image is of the essence.

Something else that I sometimes experience with those instances of trying to get my lens to focus, is the difficulty of accomplishing the task. I experience this on occasion when I’m trying to focus mentally as well. Once I establish a goal, I sometimes find that so many obstacles arise that make it difficult to accomplish it. Once I determine to be one who is focused on the task at hand, I experience the difficulty of battling with a mind that suddenly thinks of the one million other things I have to accomplish with equal if not higher importance.

I recently experienced this at work. We had a lists of tasks that we needed to tackle in order to get some paperwork submitted by the deadline. It seemed that with each task on that list that we accomplished, fifty new things got added. If that’s ever happened to you, then you undoubtedly felt overwhelmed or like the undertaking had simply become impossible to accomplish. That’s because the collective mind of my group wanted to attempt to accomplish all the things as soon as possible. We had to learn to tackle one thing at a time, no matter how many new things kept surfacing.

As fascinating and powerful as our minds can be, this is why focus becomes even more important as a spiritual being. It’s not easy when some of us have basically been programmed to multitask. But when that’s what we do, we can’t give 100% to any assignment we take on because nothing has our undivided attention. We have to be careful that we don’t drift into a place of multitasking when it comes to our relationship with God.

Just as we desire God’s undivided attention, we should endeavor to grant him the same from us. Don’t get so busy that you don’t have enough time to sit and spend quality time with God. Spending that time contributes to our ability to develop a deeper focus when it comes to our spirituality. If our minds are so busy that we, by all means, can’t think straight, then that’s a sign that it’s time for us to push pause and take a moment to reset.

Stay Sunny!
