The Maker Don't Make No Mistakes

As I was driving to a meeting one afternoon, I couldn’t help but notice the most  beautiful canvas in front of me. I often feel that when it comes to beauty, we simply can’t beat God’s creation and the display we see in nature. The view of these clouds was so stunning, it really did look like a painting. I was on a major highway, unfortunately, or I would have taken a picture.

As I observed the clouds, however, I began to think. These weren’t small dots. These were magnificently huge clouds. Like cotton in the sky. As I stared at these ginormous clouds, I began to think about what a small fry I am on this earth. Compared to the massive sky that was above me. To even think that millions of other people had the same view, the same access that I did. Yet not everyone would be willing to take a breath and pause just to take it all in.

Think about that. We’re each a speck on a map. Smaller than a dot. Yet, God knows exactly who we are and where we are. That has become increasingly important in my life of faith because other people in this world and in this life can truly make you feel worthless. To take a moment and recognize that to God, we are invaluable, is life changing. To him, I’m not just a number in a crowd or a speck on a map. He knows me. More than that, he cares.

If we don’t remind ourselves of that on a daily basis, it’s easy to lose sight of it when we look up and realize how big this world is. Yet, in this big world, we who recognize that we serve and love an even bigger God, have hope. In a room filled with many other people, it’s easy for a voice or two to get drowned out. Not with the creator of all things. Because God knows us, he knows our voice and our need greater than we do. We should spend time learning to grow just as familiar with him. So the next time you look up and see clouds in the sky, remember this. The clouds are not permanently fixed to any size, shape, or location. Though they look unyielding, they move. The clouds I saw on the day I mentioned above had a beam of sunlight piercing through them. Breaking them. God knows this very season that we are in and just as certainly is shifting the clouds in our lives. There may be moments when the clouds are so thick and fierce that we can’t see clearly. But don’t let that remove the truth that God is still right here with us.
