God of Possible

Hardships like the ones many of us face today can truly make us feel like our faith is being tested. We’ve studied, crammed, been tutored, and even have an open book nearby. Now it’s exam day. Sometimes, no matter how hard we worked, when exam day rolls around, we feel the least unprepared. If only we studied more! I’ve observed and personally encountered many situations lately that fall into that sort of category.
A few weeks ago, I briefly wrote about this amazing universe we live in. In particular, the ocean. I recently read another book about it (surprise!) because I continue to be fascinated with God’s creation. While reading the book and learning things I hadn’t learned yet, I began to think about the parting of the red sea. Talk about faith. I think more than a mustard seed was necessary for those folks to make that journey. Imagine how daunting that must have been. Being heavily pursued by an enemy behind you and nothing but a mighty sea in front of you. If faith didn’t come into play, then that is a scene that would undoubtedly feel hopeless.
Many of us today are in the midst of a “Red Sea Experience”. The road ahead of us looks impossible. The one behind us is just as frightening. Our faith has no other alternative but to become all or nothing. Wavering can no longer be an option. A solid commitment has to be made. These type of faith encounters make me reflect on bible passages like that of the Exodus because it’s an encouragement to my own faith. Not just focusing on those who trusted and held to their faith in times of hardship or, in some cases, the ones who didn’t. There are many lessons to be learned from both sides of that coin. But focuses on a God that always comes through, even when we least expect it.
There is an adage that says Never Say Never. The belief is that those words will come back to haunt you. I’m confident in God’s never. If his claim is that He will never abandon me and that He will never change, I believe it. That’s the stance that we have to claim as believers. Have faith in an unchanging God and trust him for the things that seem impossible.
