Inner Beauty

The umbrella is a handy dandy invention. It covers our heads in rain, sleet, or snow. Sometimes, it also comes through when the sun is coming on a little strong. It protects us. Over time, it shifted from the traditional solid color and has been adorned with all kinds of decorations. Some are even see through! My favorite, though, is the one where it is a solid color on the outside and decorative on the inner. That way, I’m able to enjoy the designs. It may look like a plain Jane to onlookers, but that’s because I get to enjoy the flashy design!

That simple thing led me to spend time thinking about how different many people’s outside is from the inside. There are many sayings that attest to that. Looks can be deceiving. Don’t judge a book by its cover. Beauty is only skin deep. You get the gist. Then I began thinking about how important it is for me to not put work in on my outside only, but the inside as well. If I want to make heaven my eternal home, then the choices that I make in my here and now will have an impact on that.

Whenever I begin to think about my soul and cleanliness, I think about bathing tactics. Typically, when we bathe, the next task is to put on clean clothing. If we slip back into used or dirty clothing, it can feel like it defeated the purpose of the cleansing. That’s something that translates to my spiritual life. I can’t one and done my faith. Instead, it has to and must be a daily practice. Just as I’d brush my teeth every day or eat a meal every day, I should be spending that time with God and being renewed in him every day.

It also shows the importance of accepting the cleansing that Jesus provides for us on a daily basis. It is fantastic that you were washed in the blood of Jesus yesterday. What about today? We make choices on a daily basis that aren’t always good choices. Every day, we need to renew ourselves and our commitment to God and this life we live with him. We shouldn’t take the sacrifice of Jesus’ life for granted. It is a phenomenal gift that truly keeps on giving. Don’t reject. Be cleansed daily and allow the beauty he has on the inside to shine through.

Stay Sunny!
